Western Railway Introduces Special Trains for Maha Kumbh 2025

Updated: Jan 11

In preparation for the Maha Kumbh 2025, Western Railway has announced the launch of 98 special trains aimed at ensuring convenience, safety, and cleanliness for the millions of devotees expected to travel to Prayagraj. Ahmedabad Division Railway PRO, Ajay Solanki, highlighted the measures taken to provide a smooth and secure journey for passengers, with particular attention given to hygiene and the maintenance of electric appliances onboard.

A Massive Undertaking by Indian Railways

The Maha Kumbh, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, attracts millions of devotees. To accommodate the overwhelming number of travelers attending the Sangam Snan—one of the key rituals of the Kumbh—Indian Railways has planned to operate more than 10,000 trains, including 3,300 special services. These trains will ensure devotees can travel safely and efficiently to and from the holy city.

Passenger Safety and Security

To enhance safety and offer guidance, Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams have been deployed at various stations. Ajay Solanki stated:

“For the convenience of passengers, Western Railway is running Kumbh special trains and marking them with flex painting. Hygiene and the working of electric appliances are being taken care of. So far, 98 special trains have been introduced. RPF teams are deployed at stations to assist and ensure security.”

The Railway Board has implemented additional measures, including designated waiting and holding areas for unreserved passengers. These areas are color-coded to manage crowds effectively and ensure passengers board their trains in an organized manner. Executive Director of Information and Publicity, Dilip Kumar, emphasized that officers from the RPF and GRP are present to guide passengers and manage queues.

Enhanced Facilities for Pilgrims

To ensure a comfortable stay for visitors, IRCTC has set up a "tent city" in Prayagraj. Medical facilities, including round-the-clock medical booths and small hospitals, will be available at every station. Arrangements have also been made for ambulances and emergency plans in collaboration with the state government and various hospitals.

Dilip Kumar further elaborated:

“First-aid and assistance for serious medical issues have been arranged. Announcements will be made in over 12 languages, and an information booklet has been prepared in more than 22 languages to guide passengers.”

The Maha Kumbh 2025

Taking place after a 12-year interval, the Maha Kumbh 2025 is anticipated to attract over 45 crore devotees. The event will be held at the Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. Devotees will participate in Shahi Snan (royal bathing rituals), which are scheduled for January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).

The act of taking a holy dip at the Sangam is believed to cleanse individuals of their sins and lead to moksha (liberation).

Final Thoughts

Indian Railways' comprehensive preparations for Maha Kumbh 2025 demonstrate its commitment to providing a safe, efficient, and comfortable travel experience for millions of devotees. From special trains and enhanced medical facilities to organized crowd management, the railway authorities are ensuring that the spiritual journey is seamless for all attendees.
