Severe Weather Conditions and Poor Air Quality Continue to Disrupt Delhi

The air quality in Delhi remained in the 'very poor' category on Sunday morning, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 377 recorded at 6 a.m. Dense fog engulfed the city, leading to significant disruptions in flight and train operations.

At least 51 flights faced delays at Indira Gandhi International Airport, while several trains also ran behind schedule due to low visibility caused by the fog. The Delhi Airport issued a public advisory, assuring that flight operations, including landings and take-offs, were continuing. However, it cautioned that non-CAT III-compliant flights could be affected. Passengers were urged to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates.

While landings and take-offs are ongoing at Delhi Airport, flights not equipped with CAT III technology may face delays. Passengers are advised to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. We regret any inconvenience caused.

On Saturday, dense fog had already caused widespread disruption, with 19 flights diverted, numerous cancellations, and over 400 delays.

Winter Chill Tightens Its Grip on the Capital

Delhi continues to face harsh winter conditions, with temperatures remaining low and cold waves persisting. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, slightly down from 10.2 degrees Celsius at the same time the previous day.

The impact of cold waves and dense fog extended beyond Delhi, affecting various parts of North India.

  • Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, recorded a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius.

  • Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, saw the mercury drop to -1 degree Celsius.

  • Chandigarh registered a temperature of 9.1 degrees Celsius early in the morning.

Despite the challenges, the city continues to navigate the dual crises of severe winter and deteriorating air quality, as residents brace for more foggy mornings in the days ahead.
